Regulators Issue Emergency Suspension of Cannabis Testing Lab’s License

The Washington State Liquor and Hashish Board (LCB) introduced this week that they’re issuing an Emergency Suspension of the certification for hashish testing laboratory True Northwest Inc, positioned in Olympia.

The LCB has decided that True Northwest now not meets the stringent standards required for certification below state rules. The lab’s troubles started when it didn’t submit an appropriate corrective motion report following a deficiency report. Subsequently, throughout a laboratory evaluation and proficiency testing, a number of severe deficiencies have been recognized, elevating issues in regards to the high quality and accuracy of its testing procedures.

Among the many points cited have been the absence of a lab director on workers, scales that weren’t correctly calibrated, and the issuance of incorrect check outcomes to each licensees and most of the people. Because of this suspension, True Northwest’s certification will stay suspended for 180 days, throughout which era the Board will search the revocation of the lab’s certification.

In accordance with the LCB, the investigation into True Northwest’s operations started in September 2023 when the LCB acquired documentation indicating that the lab was offering inaccurate high quality assurance and high quality management check outcomes. Regardless of being conscious of those deficiencies, the lab continued to submit “inaccurate and/or false” check outcomes to the LCB and its purchasers.

On September 19, 2023, a third-party lab certification monitor, RJ Lee, confirmed to the LCB that True Northwest was not in compliance with proficiency testing requirements and had failed proficiency exams on two separate events, elevating severe questions on its testing accuracy.

Subsequent inspections in early October revealed additional issues. On October 4, 2023, the LCB was notified that True Northwest now not had a lab director on-site, a transparent violation of certification necessities. An audit performed on October 9, 2023, uncovered a number of deficiencies, together with 5 essential ones that posed a “important public security concern.”

Because of these findings, the LCB positioned True Northwest on administrative maintain on October 11, 2023, prohibiting the lab from receiving or conducting any additional high quality assurance testing. Lastly, on October 25, 2023, the LCB authorized the emergency suspension of True Northwest’s certification.

This growth underscores the significance of adhering to rigorous requirements and rules within the hashish trade to take care of the belief and security of each customers and the general public.
