Dan Tierney, DeWine’s spokesman, advised Cleveland that the “proposal is a consolidation for effectivity, as a good portion of employees assist and experience on this discipline is on the Division of Commerce presently.”

The Board of Pharmacy has been answerable for licensing and regulating dispensaries within the state since lawmakers accepted the state’s medical hashish regulation in 2016. Underneath the regulation, the Division of Commerce is answerable for the licensing and regulation of medical hashish cultivators, processors, and testing labs.

Matt Shut, government director of the Ohio Medical Hashish Trade Affiliation, advised Cleveland.com that the group “are all for the switch.”

“It’s a fairly convoluted scheme that now we have to cope with proper now. We’re not on the lookout for much less regulation. We’re on the lookout for streamlined regulation that is smart.” — Near Cleveland.com

The governor’s finances requires approval by state lawmakers and State Rep. Jay Edwards (R), Ohio Home Finance Committee chair, mentioned he expects DeWine’s request to be within the finances that his committee passes.
