A majority of New York voters – 54% – oppose giving the primary batch of the state’s adult-use hashish licenses to social fairness candidates, in keeping with a Siena College poll revealed on Monday, which discovered a only a third of voters authorized the plan.

In line with the ballot, the proposal is opposed by 72% of Republicans, with 19% in favor. Lower than half of Democrats (45%) assist the plan with 43% opposed. Greater than half (55%) of all unbiased voters additionally oppose giving social-equity candidates the state’s first adult-use licenses.

Lower than half of Black voters (48%) assist the proposal, with 37% in favor, whereas a slim majority (52%) of Latino voters are in favor, with 30% opposed, the ballot discovered.

“Giving first dibs on marijuana licenses to these beforehand convicted divides Democrats and New York Metropolis voters,” Siena School pollster Steven Greenberg mentioned in a statement. “Sturdy majorities of Republicans, independents, voters exterior New York Metropolis, and white voters give it a thumbs down. Latino voters assist it by 12 factors and Black voters by 11 factors.”
