California Fish & Wildlife Agents Destroyed 2.6M lbs. of Illegal Cannabis Plants Last Year

The California Division of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) stated it eradicated 2.6 million kilos of illegally cultivated hashish vegetation and 487,270 kilos of flower throughout its 2021 enforcement operations. The company indicated it additionally eliminated 404 unlawful water diversions and eliminated 32,230 kilos of trash from public lands linked to illicit hashish cultivation.

David Bess, CDFW deputy director and chief of the Regulation Enforcement Division, stated in a statement that the unlawful hashish grows “are a risk to California’s fish and wildlife assets, and a detriment to these legally cultivating hashish.” The company additionally notes that unlawful hashish enforcement operations led to 1,125 warrants served and 794 firearms seized.

CDFW stated that among the most critical environmental points contain unauthorized streambed alterations with water diversions, habitat destruction, unlawful use of pesticides, and poaching and whereas the company doesn’t usually examine water theft, it does help county legislation enforcement in such investigations.

In accordance with the Division of Justice’s (DOJ) Marketing campaign Towards Marijuana Planting (CAMP) program, unlawful hashish cultivation is shifting transfer away from public land operations to personal property. In 2018, unlawful hashish cultivation exercise was roughly 80% on public lands and 20% on non-public property; in 2021 the DOJ CAMP program stated that lower than 30% of unlawful cultivation exercise occurred on public lands.

CDFW stated that it now has 68 devoted hashish enforcement officers who work with the county, state, and federal companions to fight unlawful hashish cultivation exercise.
